Global Compact Initiative

Description

The United Nations Global Compact is the largest corporate social responsibility initiative in the world, encompassing some 5.000 members in over 100 countries. The Global Compact is a voluntary initiative that calls for adoption and incorporation of 10 fundamental principles of ethical business into companies’ operations, and for annual disclosure of progress in this respect. The initiative is business-led, but it is also designed to serve as a platform for collaboration between the business, government, and civil sectors through sharing of knowledge, policy dialogue, and joint actions aimed at resolution of jointly identified developmental challenges.

The Global Compact initiative was launched in Georgia in December of 2006, and now lists 32 members from business, civil, and academic sectors.

Under the auspices of the Global Compact Initiative, the purpose of the current project is the promotion of a more direct engagement of the business sector in the country’s development through:

(a)  Integration and promotion of responsible business practices
(b)  Development and implementation of multi-stakeholder partnerships
(c)  Facilitation of market-based solutions to certain developmental challenges.
