Gender and Politics Programme in the South Caucasus

Description

The project assists Georgia and Armenia to develop gender policies and facilitate a dialogue on gender-related issues within the political structures. The project also supports women in the region in their efforts to actively participate in the political processes and to take decision-making positions.

The project encourages the South Caucasus regional co-operation, information sharing and strategy development on gender-related issues.

More specifically, the project aims to achieve the following:

  • Establish permanent units for gender equality and women’s advancement within the Government agencies;
  • Introduce gender-responsive national legislation and specific gender policy;
  • Develop National Action Plans on gender equality and women’s advancement;
  • Increase women’s representation within political parties;
  • Increase public awareness on gender equality issues;
  • Promote regional cooperation among NGOs and Governments in the South Caucasus.
