Strengthening local and regional governance in the Kvemo Kartli region

Description

The project aims to strengthen local and regional governance structures in the Kvemo Kartli region of Georgia.

Through a combination of different capacity-building tools, the projects helps seven districts of the region deliver services to citizens, as well as effectively address poverty and disadvantage in the region.

Currently, not more than 30 per cent of the regional officials have experience with local governance. One of the main components of the project is to assist local government officials in assuming their roles and responsibilities.

As a primarily capacity-building initiative, the project aims to achieve the following results:

  • Improved regional governance,
  • Improved local governance,
  • Enhanced access to local governance services by all social groups of the local residents, and
  • Secure policy mainstreaming of the experience gained by the project.
