Strengthening Effectiveness and Transparency of the Parliament of Georgia

Description

The project assists the Parliament of Georgia in exercising accountable, transparent and efficient public management. The project includes three major components: (a) improvement of the internal management processes; (b) rationalization and modernization of the law-making processes, and (c) development of the effective public relations system to improve external communication of the Parliament.

By the end of 2007, UNDP has achieved progress in the following areas:

Thoroughly analysed the Parliament’s business processes and came up with the proposal about the new process flows.

  • Established and equipped the training centre to provide specialised programmes to MPs and the Parliament’s staff.
  • Supported the improvement of the law-making process.
  • Helped the Parliament establish its West Georgian office in Kutaisi, the second largest city of Georgia.
  • Launched a modern media centre to serve the journalists accredited at the Parliament.
  • Established an information access point at the Parliament’s National Library to provide citizens with easy access to the Parliament’s resources.
  • Helped the Parliament develop its information website.

Throughout its cycle, the project will focus on the specialized training for the MPs and the Parliament’s staff, introduction of modern Information Technologies and further promotion of the Parliament’s Public Relations Department.
