Global Economic Crisis and Gender Equality
TBILISI. 16 July 2009 - At the conference today the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) initiated discussion on Global Economic Crisis and its impact on gender equality in Georgia. Discussing the ways of integrating gender aspects into macro-economic policies of the country, the conference focused on the issues, such as:
In addition, the conference hosted the launch of a new publication – "Gender Dimension of Financial Policy in Georgia”. Welcoming remarks were made by Ms. Rusudan Kervalishvili, Vice Speaker of Parliament of Georgia and the Chair of Gender Advisory Council under the Chair of Parliament of Georgia, and Ms. Tamar Beruchashvili, Deputy State Minister of Georgia on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration. The conference brought together international and local organisations, representatives of the government structures, policy-makers, local authorities, women’s NGOs, experts and the academic institutions. The conference was organised by the UNDP Georgia project "Gender and Politics” supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and the Parliament of Georgia.
