Gender Week 2009

TBILISI. 4 March 2009 – This month sees the fourth Gender Week in Georgia with the following events planned 5 through 11 March:

Gori, 5 March 2:00 pm
The round table "Gender equality and Shida Kartli civil sector.” Address: 16 Stalin Street, Gori

Tbilisi, 6 March 11:00 am
NGO Expo 2009 for the organizations working on gender-related issues. Robert Watkins, UNDP Resident Representative in Georgia, attends. The event is hosting a photo exhibition and a round table discussion. Address: Merab Berdzenishvili international culture centre "Muse,” the Tortoise Lake turn.  

Tbilisi, 7 March 9:00 am
Marathon rally at the Tortoise Lake organized by the Georgia Club of Female Runners. Address: Tortoise Lake circle

Tbilisi, 9 March 5:00 pm
Awards to the best gender-related media works in 2008/2009. Address: 24 / 8 Kuchishvili Street, Hotel "Vere Palace”, Tbilisi

Tbilisi, 10 March, 4:00 pm
Presentation of the 2008/2009 report by the United Nation’s fund for women UNIFEM: Progress of the world’s women 2008/2009. Who answers to women? Gender and accountability, followed by a film show. Address: Amirani movie theatre

Tbilisi, 11 March, 5:00 pm
Awards to the best gender-balanced Georgian business companies. Rusudan Kervalishvili, Parliament Vice-Speaker and Head of the Gender Equality Council at the Georgian Parliament Chairperson, and Elguja Meladze, head of the Georgian Employers’ Association, attend. Address: Hotel "D Plaza,” 5 Stanislavski Lane (turn from Tsereteli Avenue) Tbilisi

The Gender Week will bring together representatives of the United Nations, the Georgian government, civil society organizations, and donor community.

All events are open to media.

The Gender Week 2009 is organized by the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the UN Population Fund (UNFPA). Furthermore, it is supported by the Gender Equality Council at the Georgian Parliament Chairperson, the Gender Equality Resource Centre in Gori, the JSI Research and Study Institute’s "Healthy Women in Georgia” program, and the Georgian Employers’ Association.
